ANNOUNCEMENTS April 2006 - DoD launches Execution Roadmap initiative for Irregular Warfare identifying tasks which must be accomplished in the next fiscal year. September 2007 - Irregular Warfare (IW) Joint Operating Concept (JOC) Version 1 approved by Commander Special Operations Command, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Secretary of Defense. 1 December 2008 - DoD Directive NUMBER 3000.07 released with the subject of Irregular Warfare that "establishes policy and assigns responsibilities for DoD conduct of IW and development of capabilities to address irregular challenges to national security..." 1 January 2009 - The Irregular Warfare Centre (IW Centre) is transformed from a business unit of Delphi International Research, acquired as a subsidiary, and established to support DoD Directive NUMBER 3000.07 with the segmentation of an Irregular Warfare Center of Excellence specifically designed to support the development of innovative capabilities to address irregular challenges to national security. (Note: The Irregular Warfare Centre and it's IW Center of Excellence were validated by the USPTO as having first use of a specific Irregular Warfare center dedicated to military training, education and best practices associated specifically with Irregular Conflict since 2002 under Delphi International Research's "Joshua Group" capabilities and Irregular Warfare specified services area.) January 2009 - The Irregular Warfare Centre acquires the majority of Delphi International Research's assets and services to add capabilities in converging intelligence, psychology, and anthropology to mitigate risk in today's network-centric warfare and complex operating environments. January 2009 - The Irregular Warfare Centre embraces the Whole of Nation (WoN) approach related to the training of US military forces as recommended by Daniel E. Gardner, Director of the Readiness and Training, Policy and Programs Directorate within Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness, in “Overcoming National Demarcation in Building Partnership Capacity & Interoperability". With refinement, the WoN is used to mass community of interest and purpose towards IW innovation and problem solving. The concept of WoN directly applied to the context of Irregular Warfare was initiated by BG David Grange (Ret.) through McCormick Tribune Foundation workshops and Irregular Warfare series publications. February 2009 - The Irregular Warfare Centre acquires and consolidates a significant number of small Internet web-hosted sites and URLs related to Irregular Warfare, Asymmetric Warfare, Hybrid Warfare, and Unconventional Warfare to achieve better community knowledge continuity. February 2009 - The Irregular Warfare Centre secures additional industry partnerships for broader intelligence and special operations-related training and service offerings provided by proven vendors with historical past performance expertise. May 2009 - The Irregular Warfare Centre creates an Irregular Warfare Discussion Group to encourage cross industry collaboration and provide a mechanism to understand various Irregular Warfare needs and applicable solutions. May 2009 - The Irregular Warfare Centre creates the YouTube Irregular Warfare Channel in an effort to identify and categorize IW-relevant media videos for conflict insights and innovative solutions. June 2009 - The Irregular Warfare Centre procures a significant amount of additional SOE and OSS documentation and training materials from the UK Public Records Office and US National Archives to further supplement its UNCLASSIFIED Special Training School courses. July 2009 - The Quadrennial Defense Review Update July 15, 2009 highlights top themes that the Pentagon will address have Irregular Warfare and High End Asymmetric Threats at the forefront of strategy with DoD "attempt[ing] to institutionalize lessons from the ongoing wars". October 2009 - Vice Adm. Robert S. Harward, deputy commander for U.S. Forces Command, told attendees at the annual C4ISR Journal Integration Conference that potential adversaries using a combination of conventional and irregular tactics to fight a hybrid-style war requires the U.S. to deal with this irregular warfare, including emerging hybrid threats, and commanders must be able to understand, manage and act on the information they're receiving. January 2010 - On January 4, 2010, The Center for a New American Strategy (CNAS) published a report written by MG Mike Flynn, the Deputy Chief of Staff, Intelligence (CJ2) for the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan (along with Captain Matt Pottinger, USMC and Paul D. Batchelor, DIA). The report, entitled “Fixing Intel: A Blueprint for Making Intelligence Relevant in Afghanistan” details a number of the problems with intelligence in Afghanistan – and also provides a number of proposed solutions to the problem. Members from the IWC were invited to and participated in JFCOM's IW Intelligence Training Workshop to assist in fixing the very intelligence gaps MG Flynn requested---due to the fact that IWC has been recognized as historically providing IW relevant intelligence to the military and intelligence community in multiple theaters. March 2010 - Recognizing the need for more Research & Development in the areas of Network-centric Warfare and surge attacks, the Irregular Warfare Centre has created a sister organization, The Center for Network-centric Warfare. |
