Crispin Smith is an attorney based in Washington DC and specializing in national security law. He works on issues relating to great power competition and irregular warfare, with a particular focus on global lawfare and economic statecraft. Crispin currently leads an initiative designed to counter human rights abusers, foreign terrorist organizations, and hostile states through targeted investigations designed to expose illicit and hostile activities. He writes on lawfare, strategic competition, and irregular warfare relating to Iran, the wider Middle East, and China, with his work appearing in a range of publications including the West Point Combating Terrorism Center's Sentinel, Harvard National Security Journal, Small Wars and Insurgencies Journal, and the Irregular Warfare Center's PRISM Journal. Previously Crispin served overseas as a British military officer supporting operations in the Middle East, Indo-Pacific, and Europe, and holds a J.D. from Harvard Law School as well as a B.A. from the University of Oxford.
